About Me

My parents were Iowans.  My late mother Sharon K. Gaines,  was a Tillman and her mother's name was Corrine Marshall grew up on the East side and attended East Side High.  My late father Bernard T. Gaines  grew up on the North side and attended North Side High. His father  was Rev. Seymour Gaines.   My father attended Drake University and played on the football team.  He and his late brother Wallace Gaines were members of the singing group the Casualtones.

My mother's surviving siblings are Annette (Tillman) Phillips and Richard Tillman and my father's surviving sibling is Ralph Crowder.

I currently live in Jersey City, New Jersey and have recently connected with my Iowan Family through the Iowa Days reunions.  I have met new family members and it is always a fun experience.  Living so close to NYC I always get this comment from New Yorkers of  all nationalities "There Black People in Iowa"?  And my response is YES, we are the Fearless Blacks who moved West!!  Feel free to look me up on Facebook Shellie Gaines.
